I was looking at the way the hoses are on the engine yesterday, and noticed something. The oil filling tube has two fittings across from each other, one is connected to the fitting on top of the valve cover, the other one is plugged up ( http://www.deltaforce.net/~amnon/m38a1/DSCF0008.JPG ). What pulls fumes out of the crankcase then (I asked myself). Normally you would have a hose from the intake going to the top of the valve cover, through a PCV valve, which will pull those fumes and burn them. I also noticed that right behind the distributor, at the bottom of the intake, there is a fitting that has a rubber hose connected to it. I followed the hose and discovered that it is not connected to anything. So here is what I did. I disconnected the hose that connects the filler tube to the valve cover, then I connected the hose from the intake, through a PCV valve to that fitting on the filler tube. I left the fitting on the valve cover open. Now, when I put my finger on that fitting I can feel some suction on it, which means that air is being pulled through the top of the valve cover, down into the crankcase, up the filler tube, and into the intake. I had to adjust the carb a little after that too.
Anything wrong with that? Looking on page 112 of 9-8014 manual, shows a hose from the air intake tube going to the filler tube, and the other side of the filler tube going to the valve cover. Still it is not clear to me where does fresh air going through the crankcase. _________________ Shalom Y'all
