What is the best way to get the old dried up cosmoline off new/old parts? Is it necessary to remove it at all? The particular parts I am asking about are the aluminum and rubber knuckle seals that go on the inside of the steering knuckles on the front axle. The cosmoline is too dry to simply wipe off and I'm not real sure about what would cut it and not harm the rubber seals. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You can remove the rubber seals before you soak the aluminum in something. I use laquor thinner for stubborn stuff and paint thinner for not so stubborn stuff. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Laquer thinner cuts through it very easily. _________________ Ryan Miller
