I would like to install a cut off switch on the battery circuit of my M38. There is a knife switch type but the battery box lid is too close to the battery. There isn't enough room for the round knob twist type. Anyone have any thoughts? thanks

Mounted outside the box at the ground to frame cable.

On the M38A1 I prefer the military T-handle switch as shown above but I install it on the removable heater access plate on the passengers toe-board.
It is in easy reach of the driver by reaching across the jeep and because it is handy it always gets used. Never a problem with foot interference. Plus the M38A1 ground cable is right nearby so you only need a short cable to ground the switch (I use M38 battery to ground cables for this extra wire. For my M38's I use the same toe-board position but need about a 30" cable to go from the engine compartment battery negative terminal to the switch. The original short M38 ground cable is then used at the switch to go to the frame. Battery kill switches under the hood make it harder to use and harder to get at if you have a emergency.

BCA I see your point, but some of these switches are installed to deter theft and they are placed in a hidden spot. I suppose to have the best of both worlds you could run 2 switches in series.

The location for my switch was simply the most logical point mechanically and electrically.
Ease of access and/or hideability were secondary.

My cut off switch is installed at the firewall (through hole #12). It works fine and is placed in a hidden spot behind instrument panel. Not difficult to access.

I'm planning on driving my M38 to work more than I probably should since it's a piece of history and all, but I LOVE driving it. I'm going to steal your Idea with the T-Handle master power switch I think Rick... Now if I could get my hands on 4 of them that would be great ... I actually found this thread searching online because 3 of my Platoon's M113s master power t handles are busted and we need to kinda "bypass" them to get the things moved to the mechanic's bay in the motorpool.
