I have a question on a MB axle, but pertains to all axles. There is a MB front axle housing for sale locally. It might be a good deal, but it looks like it's missing the bearing caps. If I remember from auto mechanic school, the axle bearing caps, and engine main bearing caps, are machined to fit the given unit. However, we never discussed what if you don't have them to begin with.

Can replacement caps be acquired and installed? Perhaps with the help of a good machine shop? Just curious...

I suppose anything is possible but after all the work, paying a machinist, buying caps (which I have not seen), you'll probably be better off passing on the deal and finding another housing. Too bad they've gone missing.

Yeah, that was my thougt too. I sometimes get to the point where I think anything Military vehicle related must be saved. The harsh truth is many things become just not worth either time or effort. Thanks for a reality check!
