I need to clean the engine to see where the leaks are coming from so I can fix them. What is the best way to clean the engine bay? I could use some kind of engine degreaser but I do not want to hurt any other parts. Is there a best practice to do this?

How greasy and gunk encrusted is it?

If you have a suitable rinse and drain area the spray on
degreasers/cleaners like Gunk work reasonably well. Try not
to get it on or in electrical stuff. Usually you spray it on and let
sit, then rinse off with water.

I've used a brush to scrub it once it has had time to sit.
Might have to repeat. Another option is if drive able,
is take it to a car wash and use the engine cleaner setting.
Again, try to keep strong rinse water off and out of electrical
equipment.
