No new firewall. Same part number throughout production. These were minor changes to the dies and were accomplished with blueprint updates. Looking at those two M38's you mentioned will show that 20599 was the point of change. _________________ Wes K

So the earliest firewall was 10001 through 20599 when the filter was deleted, and one of the changes was eliminating that raised area to the right, and the J-shaped raised section to the left, replaced by a straight, vertical section.
Hammering sheetmetal and making a wood former made me wish photos were available of the parts production lines.
Your comment about adjusting the dies makes me think there was a major
part that fit into the press, with moveable and changeable dies as you say to put mounts and such where they wanted them.
Not having an auto manufacturing background leaves me a little wanting. My brother in law in Atlanta worked for GM in the assembly plants for decades. I need to talk with him a bit.
