I would like to find a lightly used M38A1 gas tank for my jeep because I cant really afford a new one.

Sometimes the one you have can be repairable with a little bit of work if it's not really rusted out pinholes can be soldered, be careful if you do this as I have heard of people trying to repair tanks that started out square and after a few seconds of air time they came back down to earth round . Shocked I don't know what your intentions with the jeep are but if your on a budget and your not going for 100% original and your stuck I think with a few modifications a regular square cj5 tank can be purchased new and put in its place for much cheaper then a new m38a1 tank. I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong though.

I have several in varying condition, but are complete. None have had fuel in them in many years. Some pin holes here and there, but easy fixes. I have seen a lot of them fixed with jb weld also seems to work fine. The ones i have can be braised/ welded, if your good. No major rot. ~ Swampy~
