Can anyone clarify the styles of spring on the M38A1 accelerator bellcrank. One version "spring, retracting, accel. pedal" WO 803358 is also listed in group 1201 as "spring, handbrake tension" which is shown in figure 12-7. What does this spring hook onto as it goes forward and to the left side? The Canadian parts books says this spring is 3.21" long with 36 coils. Another spring is listed for the accelerator bellcrank: "spring, accel bellcrank lever, upper, 4.0lb" WO 805483: what is this spring?
As for the hand brake part of your question I don't think the parts illustration is very accurate. It should pull down and not forward. See this M170 illustration even though the spring on the M170 is a different part number (WO# 809429) the pull direction for both will be downward. So I would assume the M38A1 spring fastens to the cable the same way and probably the same spot on the skid plate.
