In my pile of parts are what appear to be two new driveshafts,
one front and one rear. One is red primer the other is a light OD.

One has a U-Shaped weld near one end, total length maybe 1-1/2
to 2 inches. I can't see anything that suggests a repair.

Did Willys balance these with weld beads?

Looks like a crack repair. I have never seen a driveshaft balanced by adding weld bead in such a hap hazard manner.

Me either Wes. Weird. This thing looks brand new except for age.
Still has paint in the universal pockets.

I guess it could be used, blasted, repaired and painted.
But that is old paint.

Would that cause issues? It's the rear shaft right? Long one goes
on the front.

Looks like an old shaft that was heavily damaged, had all paint removed, repaired and repainted.

For comparison:


here is a reconditioned shaft with two new U joints and a NOS yoke.
