I'm about to install my tub on to my frame. Need some clarification. I have read the pg 113 parts manual and pg 83 tub install in service manual. I am confused, so far #1 gets 3/16 middle cushion and 1/8 top cushion, with a 1/8 side cushion: #2 1/8 cushion: #3 is 3/16 cushion: #4 nothing : #5 1/8 cushion: #6 1/8 cushion. But parts is calling for 1/8 on right side 3/16 on left side for #5 and #4 cushions and says nothing about # 3 cushion. Also parts is saying #6 inner and outer, that 4 bolts, inner and out or cushion locations ?

First decide weather you have an early or late M38A1 frame. Early frame has a pair of vertical brackets extending down from the toe board gussets at the front of the tub and fasten to the side of the frame rails (#1 body mount). Late does not have these vertical brackets. Early has a short tub mount bracket on both sides for the #2 position. Late has an extension added to the body mount #2 bracket on the right side only.

Also the Parts Manual lumps all the mount cushions together for both the M38A1 & the M170 and yet doesn't tell us which is which. So in the case of #5 we must guess or wait and see which fits best.

I am confused, so far #1 gets 3/16 middle cushion and 1/8 top cushion, with a 1/8 side cushion:
Early frame uses one A4413 3/16" cushion on top of the frame rail and one A4416 rubber 1/8" shim between side of frame and vertical bracket both frame rails.

Late frame does not have the vertical bracket therefore it does not use the A4416 rubber 1/8" shim

#2 A4414 1/8 cushion: #3 is 670540 3/16 cushion: Correct, #3 is right side only but 1/4" rubber shim.

#4 nothing : Wrong, #4 left uses one A4413 3/16" Cushion & #4 right uses one A4414 1/8" cushion

#5 A4414 1/8" or A4413 3/16" cushion: There are two entries for #5 (one for the m38A1 & one for the M170) so you should wait till the tub is in place to determine which is correct to use (fits better)

#6 1/8 cushion. #6 mounts are the 4 each across the rear crossmember and all use the A4414 1/8" cushion.

But parts is calling for 1/8 on right side 3/16 on left side for #5 and #4 cushions #4 yes, #5 no, it is two separate listings, one for the M38A1 & one for the M170.

and says nothing about # 3 cushion. Wrong, the #3 1/4" thick rubber shim PN 670540 is listed on page 318 of the parts manual

Also parts is saying #6 inner and outer, that 4 bolts, inner and out or cushion locations Thats because there are four #6 mounts across the rear crossmember

Thank you very much wes, that is a lot clearer. I did not notice that 1/4 for the #3, thought was 3/16, great right there. And i do have the later frame. I don't recall, but the #1 does have a bolt hold down right, just no side fasteners, for late frame ?
