Hey folks, I have a 1951 M38 that I'm converting from 24v to 12v. A little background...I received the jeep in pieces (literally) and most of the engine components were missing. So since I'm purchasing and converting to 12v and plan to install electric wipers, I have no need to purchase and install a dual action fuel pump (also money saving for other components). I purchased a single action fuel pump and tried to install it, but the pump seems like it will not go in all the way to tighten the bolts. It may be resistance of the arm touching the cam shaft and maybe needs to be tightened enough to move the arm against the tension.
When mounting the dual action fuel pump, the parts manual shows the pump-to-block spacer.
With all that said, my question is...do any of you running a single action pump have a pump-to-block spacer mounted between the fuel pump and the block?
Many lever driven fuel pumps were around over the years. Some were built to have their lever ride on top of the cam lobe and some under the cam lobe. All the pumps I can remember required moderate pressure to fully seat them when properly oriented to the cam. If you went to the wrong side of the cam with the lever you usually could not even force it to fully seat or there would not be any pressure required at all to seat it. both are a sign you are not installing it correctly. _________________ Wes K

Thanks Wes, but I'm aware of that too. I was placing the lever on top of the cam and the pump lever moves in the up position for pressure...so maybe it's just being new and tight. I don't think I could even get it near if the arm was under the cam. I'll try again this weekend and see if it's just stubborn.
