My 64 usmc m38a1 battery trays have the J bolt hooks in the middle, not the ends of tray. My jeep did not come with the battery hold down ether. I checked another 64 usmc jeep, and confirmed with rapco that the 64's have these trays. Doe's anyone have pictures of the battery hold downs that go with these trays ? I can only find the hold downs with the hooks on the ends.

Did you ask Rapco how they confirmed the USMC contracts used a different battery tray and hold down? I would assume he could only verify that to you if he had worked on them in the Marines or has access to drawings or parts illustrations from USMC manuals.

This is the only arrangement I have seen in M38A1's.

The hold down frames are identical for both batteries and the trays the two batteries sit on are identical. They use four identical j hooks and wing nuts.
If you focus on the center two J hooks you can see they are staggered. This is accomplished by mounting the battery trays opposite in the main box so that the J hooks are a tad closer to the windshield on the inboard (left) battery and further from the windshield on the outboard (right) battery.

Can you post a photo of the arrangement you are describing?
