I am starting to paint small part on my 52 m38 .I am using 23070 . Just wanted some opinions on which companies paints you guys like best. I have some Rapco rattle cans . It looks a little too green. I don't want to mix colors when I spray body, because I want rattle cans to match for touch up. I have a gallon of Gillespie that came with it. I don't want to open it til it warms up and I am ready to paint with spray gun.
. Thanks guys. Sam _________________ Sam, M38 71767

I have been using Gillespie on all of my vehicles for years. Always ended up with good results as long as you thin it correctly with the correct thinner (Xylene gave the best results, but I don't really like using the nasty stuff). I have used some that was left over in a gallon can that was 5 yrs old and NOT stored correctly. After thorough mixing and shaking it still came out great. Gillespie is a cheap enamel that returns good results. I agree with Wes - definitely stick the same manufacturer of spray cans and gallons. _________________ Matt

Gillespie; only, for, way back. Xylene. only. If you live in california, you are screwed because xylene is banned. . |

Rapco in the spray cans is just Gillespie that they had canned locally, so you should not have any issues matching the Rapco and Gillespie paints on the final project as long as they are both the same color number. _________________ Dave

Rapco is a major Gillespie distributor and they put the same paint in the spray cans as they sell in gallon cans. It is, indeed, the same paint and will match each other. I have been there and seen the process. My rule is to buy at least a dozen spray cans for each two gallons of paint; you will need it for small parts and touch up. |
