I started working on my 1952 M38. The front floor pans are going to need to be replaced (when I did my first "restoration" on this jeep 40 years ago I bonded and glassed over all the holes). The bottom of the tool box will need to be replaced along with the passenger floor. Is the top (body) of the tool box spot-welded in place? Does anyone have any advice or tips for removal of the tool box and its replacement?
Thanks for your help.

When you say "top" I think the hinged lid. I know you are smart enough to know its hinged in.
For the body of the box, its spot welded all around the edges. I used the spot weld cutter to get mine out. Same cutter I used to work on the tub. I'd post pics but all my pics are banked away in Photobucket _________________ Brett

They upper part of the tool box is spot welded to the floor pan. There are several spot weld tools that go onto drills that will cut the welds. I usually drill a small hole or start one in the center to keep the guide part of the bit steady.
A this chisel also works great to break loose the weak spot welds or one that you drilled and aren't quite loose.
It is not difficult to do just take a few measurements of where the original is just in case you need them to make sure you put things back where they were.

Kendall,
I have a number of photos in my collection that show the spot weld bit and pan removal under the tool box:

Kendall,
Should be down your way again this spring when I take the kids to my parents.
Work has been busy as usual and I haven't been able to get away since before Thanksgiving. _________________ Ryan Miller
