Hi Guys,

I was looking at pics of the PRCs mounted in M38A1s and something in this pic caught my eye.............anybody see anything weird?

This pic comes from this site, just back a few years......here's the link;

http://willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3916&highlight=

Look at what's between the seat frame and the rear fenderwell. It appears to be a bracket, bolted or welded to the fenderwell, that catches the horizontal tube on the seat frame. There's a piece of rubber between the frame and the bracket. Is this bracket part of the radio install kit? I've never seen this bracket before.......is it a "bubba mod" or is it legit and just missing from my jeep?

thanks,
bob

Haha!
Great idea!

Probably there to keep the seat from banging against the tub when
the soldier drops it in place.

Seems like a good idea.

I’d sure mount the barrel latch after installing...

Wait, that’s the driver seat. Bolted in place.

Anti-rattle strip?

Hi B,

Yeah, driver's seat. I don't know why it's there. I wouldn't think the seat frame would rattle much.....it's not that flexible............unless he's a really big fella!! Just looked odd.

The poster's name was 'millertime' and it's from 2006.........but if you click the link that takes you to the photo I have above you'll see another photo of the same radio down below.........and it looks like he's done something with the gas tank.......it has the wrong mounting strap and it's rear side has protrusions......so not the original tank. Maybe the seat is hinged! Anybody know 'millertime'?

later,
bob

That is a M38 not a M38A1.

That bracket is a common part. Here it is on my M38 Tub.

Here it is again:

Here's the same bracket in another M38 tub:

Hi Wes,

When you say common do you mean it's supposed to be on my M38A1? I looked real close in that area of my fenderwell and there are no old spot welds or bolt holes to indicate it was ever there. Is it M38 specific and/or M38A1 specific? Is it listed in the ORD 9 for the A1?

thanks,
bob

As I said above your photo is of an M38 not a M38A1 and that bracket came on all M38's.

Why do you believe your photo is a M38A1????

This should show the difference:

Yep, went back to some of Lowell’s previous posts.
It’s an M38.

Bob, that bracket came spot welded to the wheelhouse
from the factory. There was a hole in it where the bolt
that held that corner of the seat frame was attached.
No rubber from the factory.

The rubber is an interesting mod. Passenger
side makes sense as it isn’t bolted down.

Bretto has dimensions for making them for those who’s
tubs are lacking or if they are crushed as is common.

The A1’s didn’t have them as the driver seat franebis totally different.

The M38A1 driver's seat frame is fastened just about the same at it's left rear corner as the m38 seat with the big difference being the standoff bracket is mounted to the seat instead of the wheelhouse.

So I have a related question regarding the M38 seat brackets.

Were they in fact not the same left and right?

I’ve seen photos of mostly damaged brackets but it looks like the right
side is a little different, particularly missing the mounting hole,
as the passenger seat is not bolted down.

When I made mine I made them identical. I guess the points police
could get me but it seemed easy to just make two alike.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info. Sorry Wes, I didn't read your initial reply as the bracket was M38 only and on every one.......my bad. Brian, just a heads-up........the Points Police have been notified and are planning a raid on your place for early Saturday morning. Please have donuts and hot coffee at the ready!

Laughing

Thanks again guys!!
