going to install new brakes and such on my m38. The tm9-8012 says there should be a slot for adjustment in the drum. Maybe my drums aren’t from an m38 because I can’t see any slot. Didn’t see anything in your album either Wes. Anybody have a picture of this slot or I’m reading this all wrong. It has the correct brakes on it. Thanks John jr _________________ 52 m38 |

Original drums did have this slot but new drums no longer have this machined slot in them. Not really a big deal and you can adjust them without.

The original brake drum had more of a silt than slot so you could use a feeler gage to measure how close the shoes were to the inside of the drum.
I'm having trouble inserting a picture, however, if I did this correctly, the link below will take you to my album that will show you what the "slot" for adjusting the brake shoes looks like. It can easily be cover and packed with dirt.

Matt, Harold thanks for the info. Matt is the procedure for adjusting without the slot someplace. I have seen mention of it but no real steps. Harold thanks for the picture. Mine definitely don’t have slots. John jr. _________________ 52 m38 |
