Hi everyone, I recently rescued this M38A1 from the scrap heap. I got it for next to nothing. The gentleman I received it from had no title and no data plates for the vehicle. I do have a signed green sheet from Michigan Security of State to have it titled. However, I would like to try and title it correctly and place the correct data plates for restoration. The only lead I have is what appears to be older writing under the hood showing serial number MD83828. I have searched the web but cannot find any data on serial numbers that high. Any ideas?[/img]

Hello Spud,

I moved your post here to the technical questions forum. The Projects forum is where you make one post + keep it going with info on the status of your project and folks can follow your restoration's progress.

The old full size M38A1 data base shows your serial MD83828 is an April 1955 M38A1 which came with a hood number in the 2A58XX range. The body would have came with the strap type battery box lid, fixed grill, no radiator support rods and the wide oval hole on the inside of the front end of the frame rails.

Wes,

Thank you for moving the post to the correct location. I am new the forum world and didn't realize.

Also, thank you for the information. You answered more questions in one post than I could find in two weeks of research. I plan on doing a full frame-off restoration. Being new to forum formate, I will try and get some pictures posted as soon as I can.
This software our site uses is a bit old and does not allow loading of photos from myour devices. They must be hosted on a web site with a public accessable URL to post them here. We offer photo album space here to our members. http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=gallery under member's Albums: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=Members-Albums&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

Yours is one of the first I have seen that has the same back window style. Is it the one you pull up and push in on tracks? Mine is like that and the right side is rusted to the point I need to reach in and pull a piece square to get it open. Can you fine those on the net or is it easier to just rehab it?? Also. M38a1D is that the one that had the Davy Crocketts with them?

As for the M38a1D, I have no idea. I’m just getting into the Jeep game after being a Chevy guy for the last 15 years. The tracks on the lid are sliders that lock when its opened and then you lift the door just a bit to let it close. I’ll send you a few pictures.
