I have a set of M-38A1 windshield hinges that are / were chrome. Last I knew the hinges for the M-38A1 are hard to come by. (Someone will prove me wrong ).
What is the best way to clean these up to take them back to plain metal so I can prime and paint. Do I send them out to a plating company to have the chrome removed or what?
Please advise... _________________ Hal, KB1ZQ

Wrong listing, I searched his store and only has the upper half...
I did search KaiserWillys site after I posted the topic; and they have the complete set both upper and lowers for $189 per set. Will most likely go that route and then sell the leftovers on evil Bay...
KW also had the Phillips screws for them too...
Thanks for the attempt... _________________ Hal, KB1ZQ

You had better make sure what you are getting. The MD Juan import hinges are junk. They are not strong enough and will bend easily.
The screws are listed on eBay, Midwest Military/JBizal. They are not just Phillips screws. They are a special item that MWM manufactured specifically for this application. They have a serrated countersunk head as you will notice in the photos I posted.

Thanks John, Letts me know KW is still buying from overseas dealers to fill their stock... Have been burnt before with their products... an now that you mention it the screws do have ridges on them to keep them in place (Like lock washers).
Well looks like the hinges I have go off to see if I can get them UNPLATED... _________________ Hal, KB1ZQ
