Was on one of my Coast Guard veteran pages on the book of faces and saw this photo. It was in regards to a guy finding a few jeeps in AZ that had thought about buying one. There was one CJ5? that was painted white with coast guard on it, but no numbers.
The picture above looks like an M38/ See rear driver quarter where they added the plate. (which- actually my M38 didn't have that on it when I got it- and I didn't do it either)
On the driver fender, there is an extinguisher or something. The rod running up the windshield looks to be a Halligan tool, and on the back there looks to be a water cannon nozzle.
Look at those rear leaf springs. FLAT!

Off topic but to the extent it still affects the jeep progress.
Have the garage void being filled tomorrow finally! I have been trying to get this done since December. The concrete company to fix the walkway is supposed to be here Monday but now with that weather- who knows.
The deployment got pressed back one day due to the weather coming in and sitting off shore in some of the seas we are expecting on that little cutter- terrible.
GrandpaReid got here to take care of the dogs. Have to keep moving those jeep seats around from room to room till I get that jeep in the garage in April. When I get home, I will have him steer (but not sit in cause he's a 300# heavy) and have another friend come over and help push it around front. Time to put salty inside so I can start on the remaining details. Ive got boxes of parts that need to go in. Those are also sitting around just moving from room to room till I get it in the garage.

It was my understanding the reinforcement plates on the rear corners of the M38 were only on the Jeeps that had the Artic top installed (I could be wrong). I got an Artic top with my M38 and it has the plated installed...

Ive got 70 degree weather and I decided to do some jeep stuff before I leave on my deployment again.
It is not tightened down yet, but today I will. I spent some time in the yard with GrandpaReid doing the steering hook up. Checking for straight, and lock to lock turns etc.
Took a few times to hook up and find a point I was happy with (on the jack stands)
Will torque and grease everything today.
Set up the horn switch too. and showed my dad how to use a meter for resistance.

so, I actually torqued all the suspension bolts, tie rods and the like today. Put new grease fittings on the spring pivot bolts cause the ones provided were junk.
Put grease to all fittings. Put my little red grease caps on.
Torqued the steering pitman arm down too. but this doesn't look right. The way it was previous was pressed right up to the housing of the steering gear.
Tucked SALTY in for a few weeks.
Was 70 degrees yesterday and today. Tomorrow will be 30 with snow expected. Dad will drop me off at the ship for my trip. I am going to refer to all my patrols on these 270's as War Patrols.
We are about to play another round of "what the F was that!?" starring H. L. and her crew as supporting cast.
This will be the 3rd trip on this ship. But I did 4 trips on the sister ship between 19-21. 3 on just this ship! UGH.

I cant find the photo i took- i will leave this bomb of a "what grinds my gears" issue.
I bought a suspension kit two years ago. I installed that kit. It had greaseable pivot bolts for the springs and they came with little cotter pins.
I had to drill out the eyes on those brackets and I nearly took my dang arm off with the half inch drill again. I hate that thing.
Anyway. 3 of the 4 bolts I can put the cotter pin through. 1 is too short.
I contacted the seller. They sent me another pivot bolt. that too is too short.
I didn't measure but i will when i get back from my PTSD inducing trip (trust me- everything breaks and goes boom! at least once on the trip and always at the same time when its a bad sea state).
Will deal with when I get back. But seriously- I am a bit ticked off.

I had the same issue (s) with the greaseable pivots. I found (at my local farm store no less) shorter castle nuts allowing cotter key alignment.
