we and tried to clean out behind the shed due to all the leaves still back there from fall/winter.

pulled the radiator out again.
I didnt realize the shroud was so bad off.

options? I did just email Midwest military to see if they have one.

Saw a few older posts on here about a YT video of Brian making a shroud,
and how KW and all those other suppliers do not have the correct one.
Does it really matter on this build? not really. But I wont own this forever- maybe i can find one now and recore it.

thoughts?

Took time to take a look at the dipstick, timing marks and oil pan.

Propped up next to for depth- before I took the pan off.

Has a M38 oil dip stick.

Oil pickup screen is clean.

Engine number still present,

That lift hook up close.

Hi April,
I'm guessing your M38 dipstick must be bent (or curved) to avoid hitting the pan when inserted?

It seems to me that the full mark is still the full mark for enough oil for the float to pick it up. How many quarts it takes to get to the full mark is a different matter.

I think I'd shop for a stock oil pan, but that's just me. Does the main skid plate fit around that oil pan?

I noticed your oil float isn't assembled correctly. In your photo, the "hook" goes around-over the lip --- not resting on top of it.

Good luck!

The dipstick wouldn’t hit the pan. It comes down into the larger section. And had like 1” still below it.
And you are right about full is still full. The quart count doesn’t matter.

I already tried to order a newer replacement oil pan from Army Jeep parts, but not available till late spring. I’ll wait for it and put it in.
There is no extra skid plate in my parts stash. The previous owner bubba welded thicker steel on the bottom of that oil pan.

The oil float, I took it apart after seeing the photo of the nasty one. Mine was clear. I reassembled it and pressed the tab back down. And tightened it.

I really want to get the Jeep rolled around to the front. Was considering removing the tub again to install the drive train. I can push the frame around myself if I did that. If not, I need a few friends to help.

April that is one crusty radiator. Based on the few pics i'll bet you wont find a shop willing to recore/repair what you have. Since originality is not your focus you may want to consider aftermarket aluminum. These days you can buy 2 of them for the price of a recore (to a suitable core). A person with your skills could remove and repair the shroud and install on the replacement. I went that route on my "non-pedigreed" CJ3A and never looked back.

Things I did while off this weekend.

I painted my tub floor with the bedliner. It is dark for sure- I can still go lighter with it if I think I need to. This is a epoxy style bedliner made by Monstaliner. I've used it several times. This one is called Medium Quartz Grey. I may just get the light quartz kit and redo it. I havent decided. This isn't for everyone- I get that- (it's my jeep)

appears to be Hilda approved. (she is one of my three schnauzers)

Struggle bus with putting the lights together. One of my adjusting screws (the nut) was broken and I didn't have a spare. I went to the autoparts store and a universal one did the trick. I still have to align them eventually.

The split rivets for the grill welt can take a long walk off a short pier.
I am short 4 now because of technical difficulty.

Painted my air siren again.

A long long way to go.

Plan to go there (Ace) today and see.

I have some other little projects to work on out there today while I get this 80 degree wx. I’m off today and it’s gonna rain bad tomorrow.
Might paint some stufff today.

I ordered more paint, a steel radiator(copper core$$$) and some more items. The stock required list is getting shorter thankfully.

Update- I ordered the radiator and immediately got a notice that it is on back order. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.... This is ridiculous.

Anyway- back to today's side quests... more later.

A whole lot of side quests today. I know this looks nuts- cause it is... I get it.
This Jeep is a true back yard build.

No priming or grey paint today, but I did paint one last coat on my alarm,

Did a little fitting of an antenna bracket I am going to use for a light. Had to fill the holes from the antenna and drill the holes for my light post I made.

It is not going to get into primer till Saturday when it Dry out here since it will rain all day tomorrow.

I found split rivets at ACE.

Ordered a used take off radiator from Midwest Military today. If it checked out good with it’s pressure test, Mike will ship to me on Friday.

Need to look at getting a fuel pump and a carb. I have just about everything else I need.

Hi April,
Glad you found a radiator. MWM is the best!
My local old-school Ace Hardware is also vital.
They kind of look at me funny when they see me 3 times in a week and I only spend 2-bits here and a buck and a quarter there but I'm officially a "regular".
I've been thinking about taking a part-time job with them in my retirement --- for the employee discount.

Light stick? Rotating beacon? Strobe?
I guess so when you have a siren!

Your work is impressive. I enjoy your YT video's --- although the last one with the headlights kind of activated my vertigo..... Shocked Laughing
Keep 'em coming!

No light sticks or strobes in the 50’s Ron!!

Still remember the old Hawaii 5-0 with the rotating beacon in the opening!

Hi Brian,
April is building the light stick not me.

The main thing I got from Hawaii-5 0h! back in the day is this video.
I still get the same silly look on my face that McGarrett has..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FuoZaDvIo0

No strobe. Just a red rotating beacon. Removable from my antenna mount.

I’ll post photo when it’s ready for painting.
