Congratulations on your retirement. You only get shorter from here on.

Today is the day I became unemployed for the first time in 30 years. Am retired officially.

Spent the last few days messing with the M100 trailer project. Dug it out from under the tree and cleaned it up.
Need to sit and wire it and put the brake cable on. Then it's done.

Congratulations April on your retirement and thank you for your service. Try to always remember you can only be unemployed if you do not qualify for retirement or you are entitled to un-employment bennies! Any person that demonstrates the drive and durability along with a get-it-done attitude that you have displayed here and I am sure in the guard as well will not stay retired for long. We all look for our next calling when the boredom of retirement kicks in!

That must be the government definition. Shocked

Pretty sure most folks who don't have a job think of it as being unemployed.
I know I do. Laughing

By the way ---> Congratulations on 25+ years of faithful service to Mustang Lieutenant April Reid, United States Coast Guard, Retired!

Not government at all. Unemployed is a negative term that some people choose to use without understanding the implication. Unemployed means unable to collect a salary or wage. Retirement comes with a monthly salary, granted part of which is already yours but it is still income.

Today (AUG 2) the local Coast Guard training center held their annual Coast Guard Day celebration (CG Birthday is celebrated as 04AUG1790).

I drove Salty down to the base. Not going very fast- it was steaming! It was 95*F in the shade, and I was driving down the 55mph street at 35mph. She screams at that speed. I am just not used to driving that fast in a jeep. Made it to the base about 7 miles away no problem.

Drove home just as uneventful.

I do have a small oil leak coming from the driver side, just above the exhaust elbow because it dripped onto the exhaust and smoked a little. I will check it out when it cools down.

Bad thing about where my house is, it is between two major roads Jefferson and George Washington. The connection roads between the two are supposed to be slower, but everyone drives 60MPH. GW and Jefferson are also supposed to be no more than 45mph, but everyone drives 60 or greater.
I am a little reluctant to drive Salty down either to get to Victory and go to a car show tomorrow with it.

I am going to dig around on maps and see if any side roads can get me that far down.

She did well today. The kids loved it.

Glad you have the opportunity to enjoy the use of your resto. You did a very nice job on it and I hope you get thru the traffic tomorrow and show it again. I agree that daily traffic speed rates are a serious issue with these older utility vehicles.

Congratulations on retirement from Active Service! You've done a fantastic job with Salty. I'm sure you'll pick up and get into something just as important and challenging when you're ready.
Coming off Active Duty, the civilian world can be a bit daunting. If you need, any one of us I'm sure would be happy to be a sounding board.
Good luck!
