Bolt-on pointer for the front pulley, although the front cover also has timing marks. I'm going with the bolt-on pointer because it's much easier to see.

Ok, looks like you are combining two of the three types of front mounted timing indication systems. Mix and Match means you must start from scratch and determine the real dead nuts on TDC. You do that with the cylinder head off using a dial indicator. Then you can match you pointer to the notch. If your current front crank pulley has a notch you have no way of telling who put it there. The military filed their own notch when they switched older M38's to the late flywheel and Willys put one there on their production pulley for the M38's that came from Willys with the late flywheel.

So, when you get your crank and flywheel back mated, balanced and match marked at the back end of the crank and you install the crank then try to start the timing mark locator effort right after matching the cam timing timing gear to the crank gear marks.

Thanks Wes. It's my intention to re-assemble the entire power pack according to the tech manuals, and when I need it, with the help and advice from my friends in this forum. Very Happy
