That was a slip of my finger; I did not even notice the mistake; I certainly meant it to be RMC. And not sure how the mistake ReC was interpreted to mean "reclaimed" anyway. Furthermore, ReC would not be an abbreviation for it even if it had one.
And further, Reclaimed would not mean Overhauled or Rebuilt; and you would not put a used engine into inventory as a replacement item. I worked in TACOM for several years. (Tank Armament) Not engines.

Wow, Reclaimed, I never heard that before but Rec can easily be interpreted as Reconditioned! Reconditioned was the word I use, I think???????

Well I did my 22 years in the service and it was not uncommon to see depots recondition a runout or damaged engine and re-insert it in the supply chain.

Her are pics of two bell housings and other items from my pile of parts.

I now have two engines (CJ2A & MCxxxx) and various engine peripherals.

Comments welcome if you see something appropriate for this M38. Pulled the head and have not yet seen any cracks. Still doing body work.

Weird.

Google wants access to my photos before I can view yours.

“Google wants access to my photos before I can view yours.”

Not sure about that.... using Google Photos to organize the pics which I hope is OK. GP let’s me fuss around with the thread as new stuff happens.

Maybe try the Spare Parts link again. I’m trying to decide on what to buy next for the engine...... which brings up the question, “How badly does using (for example) the wrong Air Filter screw up the authenticity of a project?”

The right air filter goes where it was intended, and works well. Everything is stil available to put it back correctly, even using a non standard WO carb.

Humor is sometimes hard to convey in on-line content. So.... You guys having some fun here? ... no, I don’t plan on making a FrankinJeep although unique rides can be great.

As I put this thing back together it would be nice to pick the right gingerbread for the time slot of the vehicle..... not that easy for a first timer. 😁

OK... I get it..... Air filter in the battery box. 😁👍

Looks like the cabin air filter to me. Might want to keep it. Laughing

It was bad enough but what Bubba did to the firewall to install it was a tragedy.

Nice find!

My quick rookie observation of your MC engine shows it has a 12 volt starter, Alt and Dist.

The bell housing looks to be the correct waterproof type with the wrong hand hole cover, it should be a 6-bolt non-vented type.

Don,

Using photo file systems outside our web site to add photos to your post often comes with small detail problems. A few of which are 1 - requires a no password needed access to the photos, 2 - Sometimes require's members to log in or join the photo site to view them, 3 - Later on when photo host web site changes any rules you loose the members access to the photos.

The simple solution to all of this is to simply load your jeep photos right here on our mjeeps Photo Albums Page in your own album. Which you already have and already have 6 photos in it: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=album701&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

Wes,
I will work on making the transition to the website album.

I was concerned that the number and data size of my pics would exceed the site guidelines and was lazy about doing pic size conversions..... will try to get with the program.

Meanwhile, I have added more pics to my Spare Parts gallery. Don.

I can’t believe I am about to quote TM9-8012 .... about something I have yet to fully understand:

Ch.1/Sec.1 General/ Scope 1. (d)
“A sealed or pressurized bell housing, beginning with vehicle S.# 53262.”

My M38 tags show MC52468. (as in before MC53262)

Here is where I show my ignorance ..... Does the TM9-8012 reference mean that the original bell housing for this jeep would have not been sealed and would have had the vented hole cover? (Like the one I have.)

OR ..... does it mean that the replacement engine I recently found is not exactly from the same assembly period as the body.

OR...... does it mean that the bell housing on the replacement engine is not original to that engine.

OR ..... oh, what the heck... lost in the weeds.

Don

Yes, factory delivery would have had a non waterproof bell housing.

Maybe Wes can help with the RMC engine serial/bell housing delivery.

These guys had power plants serviced and swapped even when they were still in service. My MC 11481 dash number unit has a rebuilt/replacement engine (serial illegible) with a Pueblo Ordnance Depot tag and the newer waterproof bell housing and later T90.

New, as delivered? No.

Motor pool? No problem.

Take care,
