Has anyone seen this English Holman winch on the M-38 and this PTO- is there anything original at all?

You should read our instructions for how to post your photos. You are not using the correct url and you are not enclosing that url with these " [img][/img] " from the click-on bar at the top of the post.

Both Willys and Ford of Canada produced M38's used the Ramsey winch & PTO from the factories and those that left either factory with a winch had a " w/winch " serial plate on the dash. I am not aware of any other brand winches used by Ford of Canada for the Canadian M38 CDN models. You should take a full photo of your dash data plates, the entire set together.

Here are the several different production Willys serial plates found on M38's that left the Willys Toledo, OH factory with a winch (w/wn) and without a winch.

This serial plate came on an M38 that left Willys with a winch.

This M38 left Willys without a winch.

This is a Ford of Canada built M38 CDN that came without a winch.

Unfortunately, the label where the numbers are to be stamped is missing, it is replaced by a plate with a sticker.

The only distinguishing feature of the M38CDN from Ford Canada and Willys is therefore the designation on the data plate, otherwise nothing on the body, frame, engine, etc.?

There are several subtle items that differ. Also for the M38CDN's there are two batches. An initial batch of newly delivered to our US Army and quickly turned over to the Canadian Army M38's delivered to Canada while Ford of Canada was setting up their own production lines. These retained their regular Willys serial tags and also were assigned CDN numbers .

The most obvious difference with Canadian M38's are the convoy light at the rear of the frame that illuminates the rear axle differential so driver's can space their jeeps better at night under blackout conditions.

It would still help your discussion to post a photo of the entire set of data plates on your dash.

Thanks for the information. I added the remaining labels to the gallery under numbers 33 and 34.The two bottom labels are fake-only stickers

They both look like metal plates. Are you saying they are stick-on fabric, paper or vinyl decals? They look very much like current re-production metal tags in your photos.

Here's an example of the re-production metal plates: https://www.kaiserwillys.com/category/decals-stencils-data-plates/data-plates/metal-dash-data-plate-set-fits-50-52-m38
