They tried something similar in the province of Quebec in 2019 but after a couple of years of negotiating and legal battles gov't said ok to keep MBs, MCs and MDs but Iltis and Humvees and heavier class vehicles are still hard to get plated Rolling Eyes

They tried this in Kansas back in 2006.
The Kansas DMV has never really been organized and untrained.

Clerks will come up with opposing rules from one to another in the same office and between different counties.
