Finally got around to remove old tires, sandblast, primer and paint the wheels. Had a local tire shop install new tubes in the STA super Traxions. At the 6.50x16 size, they are actually just a bit taller than the old 7.00x16 that was still on the M38. Super happy with them so far.

While cleaning the rims, I did realize I had 3 different types. 3 Kelsey Hayes with the round rivets, one Kelsey Hayes later rim, off a M38A1 with the flat head rivets, and unfortunately one Civilian rims, with a slightly different offset, no hole in mounting surface and also no safety bead. This one will be used as my spare, as it looks pretty close from the outside. I hope mixing the one M38A1 rim with the 3 M38 rims will not have any ill effects, they all clear the Brennan's Garage Tracker disk brake conversion.

I'm thinking about buying a similar set of tires for my M38. Looks good. Can you post a picture from the side?

Dave

I noticed your comment about the disc brake conversion supplied by Brennan's with the suzuki rotors and calipers. Have you done the conversion? I kind of thought the 16" wheels would not have a problem fitting without an offset. Just curious, looking for some info about doing the conversion.

Ralph,

Yes, the disks and calipers cleared the 16” wheels with the rivets. I did notice Some additional washers in Brennan’s kit (thin washers), which I used to index the caliper so it would clamp the disk evenly from both sides. Other than that the install went very smooth.
Have not had a chance to try the brakes, my body is coming along very slowly and the summer heat does not provide great motivation….

Dave, my jeep is still up on the lift and has little accessories installed, but over in the technical knowledge board I did a compare of these tires vs the original NDCC tires, and I “grabbed” some pics from other members albums, showing a few with them mounted. I think this is a great tire choice, good height, a little wider and from what I have read, better on road with still very good off-road traction.

Was there a particular vendor or website you got your tires from? Or from Coker Tire?

Thanks.
