Your best source of info is your Body and Running Gear Service manual TM 9-8015-2. First it offers guidance on trueing up your frame just in case it has a bending. Then in combination with your Main Operator's Handbook TM 9-8014 and your parts manual ORD 9 SNL G-758 the answers you seek are in these pubs.

Another good source is my Photo Album: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=Wes-Knettle&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

In particular there is my M38A1 Frame Sub-Album: http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?set_albumName=album149&op=modload&name=gallery&file=index&include=view_album.php

Larger file size is at: http://willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules/gallery/albums/album149/TM_9_8015_2_Pg_275_M38A1_Frame.jpg

As I mentioned above this is a good time to make sure the frame is squared up true.

Here's another good shot:

Hope this helps and gets you on the right path.
