I am working on the 'new' A1, and I have a question or two. The fuel pump looks like the one in the TM, except for one thing. Where the priming handle should be, there is a fitting to a small diameter piece of tubing that goes back by the bellhousing. I have not traced it out yet. Also, on the fuel tank, the filter/pickup and the sending unit are reversed from the picture in the manual. One other curiosity, and this is visible in the pictures, the battery cover has one latch on each end, but looking at the cowl, it appears to have originally had the eight wingscrews. FWIW, the DOD is 10.02.1953, and it is a USAF jeep. The insides of the wheelwells, and the backside of the wheels are still blue.
The pump with the priming handle was discontinued early on. The very early A1's actually had a vent and fording system very similar to the M38.
The fuel pickup is in the deepest part of the tank. What TM and which page are you looking at the tank? _________________ Wes K

Wes:
Thanks for the reply. I was using an old Original Reproductions manual (TM/TO # not listed) that the PO gave me with the jeep. I just looked at my manual on CD and it shows the configuration on my tank. Thanks for the info on the pump. I posted the pics, and thoughts?
The 289091 in the photo is probably the serial number or registration number of the jeep the wheel belongs to. The arrow shows the mounted direction of rotation for the current installed tire. NCG is most likely the CG used as a reference for loading on aircraft. _________________ Wes K

Thanks Wes:
Does that number seem to 'fit' as a USAF registration number?
Would anyone have any idea when the USAF would have shot a coat of OD over the blue?
I also need to post a couple more photos. First, the jeep appears to have been a radio jeep (holes in the appropriate locations). Second, there is a really bizarre paint/undercoat job on the underside of the hood, possible a Bubba job, but the remainder of the jeep shows little evidence of PO paint.
Would the black paint on the dash be more likely USAF or PO?
