Actually the model 50 winch is the correct Willys factory installed unit. The 50R was stocked later in the field by the military for service spares. The difference being the rating of 3500 vs 5000 pounds. The Y50R pictured in the auction is a narrow unit that was adapted to the Willys M38/M38A1 frame by using wider side pieces on the adapter plate frame. I don't know what vehicle that winch was designed for. Possibly a narrower vehicle like a M422 or Maybe to fit the bumper on the M151.
The critical unit is the 105 PTO which is the very short (left to right) unit. _________________ Wes K

I have one of the model 200 ramsey winches I grabbed off an old Willys wagon for my M38A1. I haven't decided whether to narrow the winch by cutting the drum and shortening the internal shaft, or to just make a slightly different bracket which will accept the wider 200R.

I originally had a ramsey 200 series winch mounted on my M38. the mount was an easy angle iron frame that picked up the factory frame mount holes. The fairlead was mounted on the bumper It fit nice and slick but you need to mount it low enough to clear the steering bell crank. that is unless you have the right PTO and driveline. Here is about the best pic I have of it. I wish the frame was clearer:)
