I took my MV to a classic/antique/hot rod parade this evening to show it off.
There were two Duce and halfs riding also. Mine was the only military jeep. The event is called Hot Augusts Nights. I got a lot of cheers, salutes whisles, etc. It was Hot alright. 100 degrees in the afternoon. It cooled off some as the sun was fading. The traffic was bumper to bumper stop and go red lights to deal with because they didn't close off the main traffic on the cruisin street. A lot of spectatators lined the route almost two miles. I made three or four passes on the route. Temperature of the engine never went above 180, It stayed slightly under. Jeep and engine perform great. A policeman pulled up beside me and commented that he really liked the vehicle. There will be another show/parade here locally next month. Thats what I did the work for. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Good for you Ken. I went to a cruise night here in New Jersey last night also. A place called the Whiskey Cafe has one every Saturday night. There are over 200 vehicles of all types, mine was the only jeep (M-3 Everybody loves to see jeeps, especially the kids and veterans. I hear a lot of stories from the veterans. Your right, it makes it all worth it!!! Regards, Dennis |

Any pictures? Great story . . . there's a lot of cruise-ins here in Jacksonville, can't wait to get mine street legal so I can join in. Like you, I'm sure I'll be the only Jeep - I've found one flatfender since moving here & it was the typical Jeep on steroids creation. _________________ Galen

No, I was by myself I didn't take pictures, I imagine someone took pictures of my jeep though. I stopped for a break and chatted with some young folks. They really went on about the vehicle, especially a young lady, she really had to have one. She thought it was cool.
November 10th I'll be taking it to a veterans parade an a memorial dedication in the town I grew up. Thats about 50 miles from here.
My latest pic.

Ken, what a great rig! What did you use to get that dark finish on the wood handles of your axe & shovel? My flatty has an M38 tub that I plan to put the pioneer tools on, although overall it is a civilian build (the M38 tub didn't have a hole in it, couldn't bear the thought of selling it & using something else, it was just too good).
I can see why someone had a fit over your jeep & wanted one - who wouldn't after seeing that great a rig! _________________ Galen

Galen that is a dark mahogony stain. Of coarse, it depends on how many coats you put on. You can make it lighter or darker, your pick. Then I sprayed satin polyurethane coat on it. Thanks for the compliment.
My next step is gonna be to put a down spout before that 90 degree bend in the tail pipe so I don't spray water and carbon on my canvas. I haven't quite figured out how I am going to make the down spout and cut into the existing pipe. _________________ Tropical Veteran

Since my muffler is repro and my fording exhaust pipe is NOS I decided to modify the muffler. I cut the muffler outlet pipe off and welded a downward angle pipe on so the exhaust is pointed toward the ground. Then I trimmed and welded the repros pipe and flange to the outside of the new downspout so the fording pipe bolts back on. At a quick glance it looks correct. _________________ Bob W. No original parts were harmed in this modification

So the NOS pipe attached to the repo flanged pipe is just tacked along side the muffler outlet down pipe. Correct? No exhaust gases go into the vertical pipe. Correct? _________________ Tropical Veteran

That is correct, no exhaust goes up the fording pipe. _________________ Bob W. Monticello, NY. 1952 CJ3A, 1952 M38, 1950 CJV-35/U |

Ok great. Now I can get started on it.
By the way, looking at your lifting shackle, To keep it from vibrating and making noise, what I did was use a short piece of welding rod and make a bend in each end and hook one end to the shackle and the other to the top of the bumperet to hold the shackle off the tail pipe. _________________ Tropical Veteran

I have some high temp RTV globbed on the back side of the shackle to help keep the noise down. You can kinda see the RTV in the photo. _________________ Bob W. Monticello, NY. 1952 CJ3A, 1952 M38, 1950 CJV-35/U |
