Installing my NOS fording cable today ('52 M38). Does the longer of the two cables go to the pcv valve or the oil fill tube/cross tube? It looks as if it can go either way and will have to be cut/shortened no matter what...

Tony,

Becarefull when shortening the cables, use a hacksaw and carefully cut the outer sheath to fit then cut the center cable... I ruined on by cutting to quickly and incorrectly...

As for location it does not matter, they cut to fit... More than likely the vendor sent you one from an M-37 as thy are all the same...

Hope this helps...

Thanks - I used a dremel to cut the outer sheath. Got the PCV side working great. Oil fill tube - not so much. Valve closes but will not open when I push the handle back in - the inner cable bows and the valve remains open. I can't lengthen the outer sheath to stop the bow now that it's cut and there's no room to lengthen it anyway because if I do the valve will not open because it will hit the sheath.

I didn't really plan on using it much anyway and will probably keep the valves wired open as a precaution (I had an issue where the valve at the PCV wiggled closed and created quite an oily mess).
