If it has the front bumper gussets then it's MB or CJ2A. MB/GPW (WWII) has the machine gun support plate and there's no steering bellcrank on the front crossmember since it was mounted on top of the front axle. The MB/GPW had the frame serial number on the inside of the left front frame rail just nehind the bumper for the MB and on top of the left front frame rail just ahead of the brake master cylinder on the GPW. The early CJ2A had a frame serial tag on the outside of the left front frame rail just behind the bumper. Based on this info can you tell us which frame you have?

The frame has bumper gussets indicating it is a '42-45MB or 45-'48 CJ2A

Is the steering bellcrank pivot welded to the front cross member (CJ2A) or mounted on the front differential housing (MB)?

The transmission was originally a column shift CJ2A style from '45, early '46.

The engine has early WWII venting road-draft tube and no PCV on the intake manifold (I dont know if these were ever used in CJ's) . What is the casting # of the block?

The waterpump has an M38 style bypass hose on the top.

The head 640161 was used on CJ2A, CJ38 and I believe also the M38. An M38 head would have a hole and pipe fitting on the front to mate to the waterpump hose.

The M38 head is an 800376 casting. The tranny could also be from a Willys util;ity or pickup as the road draft tube may also be from an early Willys.

Eric,
We need complete photos of the rear half of the frame and closeup of engine lower right center side for casting number.

I'd say about a 1947 or 48 CJ2A. It would help to know the serial number of the engine. It would be on the small flat area just above the water pump.

That engine was original to a Utility station wagon. That explains the side shift tranny that came with it.

Yes the same engine. You would have to ask the folks on the Willys Tech board who have more data available on the Willys Pick-up and Wagons. It will be in the 1947 to 1951 range for the engine.

North-Shore,

I have a few carb bases laying around for that WO carb. Do you have any M38 parts to trade? Is there any information stamped on the bottom of that broken carb base?
