If you look on my album there are new pic's (pg 5). A co-worker had an industrial blaster that he used on the body frame and misc parts. After he finished he shot a coat of the Gilespie red zinc ( I provided) on them to keep the surface rust down; a light coat of primer. The gas tank was full of rotten gas when I got the M170 from another friend and I had thought it was still good but it has rot on the top that showed up after the blast. Looks like it rotted from the inside. The bottom under the drivers seat in that hidden unaccessable compartment is rotted as is the passenger and driver floor boards by the side supports and the bottom flange of the windshield. Frame, fenders and the rear are all in good shape.
He charged me 500.00. Does that sound reasonable? I thought it was a good dollar for a good job.
I'll start to put together the chassis next, saving the body for last. Axles are done now. I am looking forward to a rolling chassis.
Reminds me, I need three rims. Two that came with mine I believe are Mutt rims that only fit the rear. I also need a spare tire rim. The remaining two I have are good. I live close to Ft Smith Arkansas.
Once you strip them down, they are always rustier and worse off than you thought they were going to be, but now you can fix it and it will be a better restoration for it.
