Has anyone tried silicon brake fluid in their brake systems? I have heard that it lasts longer and does not absorb moisture. I have also heard that you can’t mix regular and silicon types. Since I am about to replace the whole brake system I might try it out. Are there any tips that anyone has heard?
Personnaly I think silicon DOT 4 brake fluid is a waste of time and money.
DOT 3/4 works just fine and all you need to do is flush and change fluid every two years. Yes it is tough on paint. Yes it can absorb moisture. Most old car brake systems did just fine on it for 50 years. Is easier to find at stores.
DOT 5 silicon does not absorb moisture so the moisture goes to the bottom areas and rusts big time. It is tougher to bleed the system. It is very expensive. It is harde to find at stores. Corvetted tried it and dumped it. The military had a congressman with a brother-in-law in the silicon business dump it on them just like the F111.
