Gentlemen;

I have been working on the problems listed in posting of "Trouble Shooting 2". I charged my batteries and tried to start our M38. What I found is now it won't even try to turn over and start. The starter looks to be dead.

When I depress the starter petal, the gauges peg to zero and nothing happens with the starter. Then I turned on my lights and depressed the starter pedal, the lights dim and nothing happens with the starter.

Last March, I rebuilt the starter putting in a new clutch, cleaned the assembly, lubricated the bearing, and checked and rebuilt the starter switch. It ran until three weeks ago, when I starting having the problems described in "Trouble Shooting 2". Now, nothing.

Any thoughts before I take the fenders off and start at the beginning? The weather is getting nice and all I want to do is drive.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Regards;

Gentlemen;

As a postscript to my March posting, here is what I found and worked out:

My new batteries were not sufficiently charges, so in trying to crank the engine they dropped below the voltage and cranking ability to turn over my starter. After a deep charge by the manufacturer, they were fully charged and ready for service.

Once the battery problem was solved, I found that my old starter would not turn over. I purchased a new starter from Peter DeBella, adjusted the starter switch and tested it. It worked great. I also bought some parts and rebuilt my old starter. After the rebuild and an adjustment of the starter switch, it started also. Now, both starters work and I have an MBP-4301UT early starter as a spare.

With the fenders off, I removed and worked on the fuel pump, lines, and carburetor. After the cleaning and inspection, everything was installed per the manual and our Jeep started up first time.

With the fenders back on and the Jeep starting and running well, I am now working on the carburetor adjustments to improve performance.

Now, we are on to a final paint job, stars, and hood numbers.

I want to thank everyone for their input and help with this posting.

Regards;
