My original tank is too far gone to fix. I bought a new repro tank which is aparently all that is available. It fits the well OK, but the filler neck is welded in and has no screen holding lip and no spot to clip the cap chain to. I'm thinking about un soldering my old neck, cutting out the new tanks neck, and re-installing the correct neck. Any tips or advice? Anyone done this? I was thinking of centering the old neck and "tacking it" in the Jeep so it fits the neck opening in the side of the body. Knowledge is expensive I've learned. Any savings here will be appreciated! I replaced my M38A1 tank with a repro, also. I spot welded a loop in the neck for the filler cap but took no action on the strainer problem. I toyed with the idea of rolling a ring and attaching it in the lower end of the fill spout either by spot welding or JB welding. Welding is of course only possible on a tank that has never had fuel in it, at least as far as I'm concerned
My sending unit was 90 degrees out of position when lined up with the holes on my repro tank. How does yours line up? I had to redrill and tap the holes to make mine work.

Thanks for the fast response! Yes, mine has the holes wrong on the sender also. I'm going to re-drill and change. I believe the float is supposed to drop down into the lower level. I get the feeling MD Juan makes the tanks. They or whoever made it, has poor quality control, but it's better than nothing which is what I had. The tank seems heavier gauge metal and the baffle looks good. Anyone else? John

There all made by MD Jaun, the company sends reps around to all the dealers for suggestions but the bottom line is they dont care and continue to make a p*** poor product, I purchused one last year from a vendor here in PA last Sept. not only was clocked the wrong way you could watch it rust I told the M38A1 venders about this at Red Ball meet but they seem not to care as there is nothing they can do, Iam talking to a netal faber here in town to take mine apart and replace the bottom he used to make whole tanks for a Packard restorer that I knew Ill see how that goes.

MD Jaun strikes again! I would have cut the bottom out of mine, flanged it, and soldered in a new bottom, but the tank was like wonderland cave, full of stalagmites, stalactites! When blasted, it had pin holes on ALL surfaces. The neck is in fine shape though. Anyone have a extra filter screen? Missing mine John
