I got new brake drums for the M38A1 and took them to the machine shop to have them turned true to rotation with the hub.

The machinist told me one of the front hubs on the inside bearing the race is loose in the hub. He thinks it will stay seated ok but might require the hub to be replaced.

Are there any tricks the old timers have to help make the race hold its seat?

I remember one time the solution of the rear differential loose race was to prick around the seat for the race with a punch. Can that be done for the hub?

Center punching raises metal and would tighten the race, JB weld epoxy would also do the job on a clean blasted surface. Of course you need to keep the race surface clean if it slops over on it. JB would be easier and I've had excellent results with it. The surfaces being cemented must be etched and clean or it could fail. Oil and gas won't effect it. Heat doesn't seem to either. They actually recommend it for block patches where cracked. It WORKS! I've done it. Your choice! Good luck, John
