Gentlemen:

I just picked up an M-100 trailer. It's in pretty good original condition. It's only missing the military tail lights and tool box. It is made by Strick in January 1951 and I just noticed it was a Japan Ordinance Depot Rebuild tag on it dated June 1957. My question for now is, can I remove the tub from the chassis or is it welded on? Very Happy

Looking forward to hearing from you guys.

Dennis from Jersey.

Tub is welded to the chassis... You can cut these with a cutoff wheel but be carefull not to cut the welds on the tub...

You can take almost everything off except for the frame and tub combo... if you don't cut the welds...

Also if it is in good shape do not break the welds that hold the tub together as this is what keeps it watertight... it looks like it was brazed and run thru a machine to crimp it together as it was brazed... at least on my Strick...

What is your serial number...

Mine shows 102 with a Delivery date of 7/52

Hope this helps...

Smile I took a closer look at the rebuild tag on my M-100 trailer and this is what it says: Rebuilt by Japan Ordinance Depot 6/10/1957 JO# PM1350357 Shop: OOD. The Mfd. Serial Number is 14148 Strick Corp.. Phila. Pa.
Built 1/1952.

The gentlemen I got it from purchased it from the Defense Property Disposal Region Office in Columbus, Ohio on 11/28/1973. He paid $175.00 for it. He gave me the original receipt! The receipt says Location Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, Rhode Island. It looks like I'm the second civilian owner, after Uncle Sam.

If this trailer was rebuilt in Japan, what are the odds it was in Korea?

Any thoughts Gentlemen.

The odds it was in Korea are very good but most likely after the truce in 53. The main front line combat jeep and trailer in Korea from Jun 1950 to Sep 1953 was the WWII MB/GPW and the WWII MBT/T3. The M38 and M100 were all johnny come lately with the earliest known dated photo I have seen of an M38 in Korea was August 1952 and for the M38A1 was Jul 1953.
