I have used this to repair oil leaks in non-pressure oil leak areas. Pan and timing gear cover leaks, especially where these two covers meet.
1. remove oil dip stick and duck tape the vacuum hose end to the opening
2. close your fording valves and block the tube to the bellhouseing and
tranfer case if you have them. You want to apply a vacuum to the engine block
3. turn on the vacuum and clean with leak areas a solvent cleaner--I like to use starting spray--either. When you see the fluid sucked into the spot it will be cleaned out by the spray.
4 Use Permatex No. 2 gasket sealer--it is a liquid gasket seater we used on aircraft parts. With the vacuum on, apply the sealer with the
brush in the can and you should see the sealer be sucked onto the spot.
Quickly apply the sealer again and have some one shut off the vacuum cleaner with the switch' as you are applying the sealer. The vacuum will slowly drop and stop sucking the sealer into the leak area.
We used this procedure to seal fuel leaks on airliner wings---FAA approved for minor leaks.
Nice tip guys. Be careful if you have a bit of fuel in your oil or are trying this on your gas tank. The airplane guys use a huffer air venturi system for the suction that doesn't involve any electric motors. _________________ Wes K
