Greetings to all:
Please allow me to introduce myself. I am Captain Evan K. Harrod, II, and I am the Executive Officer of Headquarters & Headquarters Company, the Army Cadets of Millersburg. I have been selected to serve as the Action Officer for the 2010 Parade of Cadets, which is to be held in Millersburg, KY on the morning of Saturday, 10 April 2010.
Every year, the US Army Cadet Corps celebrates the anniversary of its' founding, which occurred on 10 April 1909, in New York City, when Commodore James H. C. Smyth activated Colonel Cody's Boy Scouts. This was the original parent organization, that evolved into the US Army Cadet Corps. It was based on the US Navy, and it provided an opportunity for young men to learn good citizenship and patriotism. Last year, 2009, marked three major milestones in the organization's history. It was the one hundredth anniversary of the organization's founding, and the beginning of a new era, when the American Cadet Alliance was disestablished, and the US Army Cadet Corps was established. It was also a cause for celebration when the new National Cadet Training Center was activated, and our new home was dedicated at the former Millersburg Military Institute. This event was the beginning of a new era, and an opportunity to befriend the great people of Millersburg and Bourbon County, Kentucky. Should you wish to learn more about the US Army Cadet Corps, please visit our website at www.goarmycadets.com .
As a part of last year's Leadership Symposium, it was decided to have a Parade of Cadets, as a way to celebrate one hundred years of Cadetting, and all of the Cadet Programs in our great country, as well as the heritage of service in the US Armed Forces. This parade quickly took on a life of its' own, and became an opportunity to celebrate Cadetting, service to country, not just military, but also Law Enforcement, Fire / EMS, and all of our community heroes. It continued to grow, and it became a celebration of American Exceptionalism and the joys of living in a small rural community, reminiscent of a Norman Rockwell painting. As a result of the hard work of a lot of generous, dedicated volunteers, and the blessing of a perfect sunny day, last year's Parade of Cadets was an outstanding success.
Again, this year, on 10 April 2010, the US Army Cadet Corps is hosting another Parade of Cadets, again, being held in conjunction with the United States Army Cadet Corps' annual Leadership Symposium, at the National Cadet Training Center, and Headquarters, US Army Cadet Corps, in Millersburg. Again this year, we want to have a great day, with a great big parade, down the Main Street of Millersburg. We want to include Cadet units from all of the recognized Cadet Programs, not just the US Army Cadet Corps. We welcome marching units from Junior ROTC units representing all branches of the US Armed Forces, as well as Civil Air Patrol, US Naval Sea Cadets, Young Marines, and also College ROTC Detachments. As with last years' Parade of Cadets, we welcome Fire Departments, Law Enforcement agencies, and any Emergency Service units. Also we welcome Veteran's Organizations, motorcycle groups such as Patriot Guard & Task Force Omega, historical / military reenactors, scout troops, marching bands, and various other units who would like to participate.
I am sending out this email to all of you, announcing the parade, and requesting all of you to assist in the parade in what ever capacity that you are able to. It does not matter what capacity that you are willing to participate in, because we welcome all interested parties who are willing to help out and make the 2010 Parade of Cadets an outstanding success. Any person or unit wanting to march in the parade, please feel free to contact me, at your earliest convenience, in either of the following ways: email: evan.k.harrod@armycadets.com or by cell phone at (502) 376-0545. I strongly encourage interested parties to contact me as soon as possible, as we are two months out from the date of this event, and there is a lot to do in a short time period! |
