When I was in The Netherlands a few years ago, one of the vehicle dealers had 55 GMC Bolster trucks for sale. These ex French Army trucks all had a rifle holder that had a canvas, zip up cover. Maybe you have something like this??

there is a picture of the rack in the M38 Referance Guide book bottom of page 156, its the one with the canvas bag. Most of you might have seen one hundredes of time but I have never seen one and the book fails to give any info on it, like how it mounts, does it mount the same way. are they worth using or is it best to use the plane one with no bag. Thanks for any help, this is my first M38 so, sorry for all the questions. Thanks Gene

I don't know anything about the rifle rack.

We are sort of neighbors. Do you have any photos of your vehicle that you can post?

That's the standard rack from WWII. It mounts to the existing windshield brackets just like in the photo. The canvas can be used or left off. To use the canvas you run the mount bolts for the rack right thru the canvas but then the canvas is permanent.

On mine, the canvas is attached to the rack via two large heavy gauge staples. If you remove those staples, you can remove the canvas.
