Hi all
I'm in the process of stripping down the above vehicle, and wondered if other than the brakes, handbrake & Master Cyl heat shield wether there is any other areas that may have materials which may contain asbestos, I.E rubbing strips on the wiring looms within the braiding, or generator areas.
You may think I am being a bit paranoid, but I lost my father to Mesothelioma, so as a result I am very cautious and yes a little bit paranoid.

That's a horrific ordeal so I imagine you would be paranoid.
I would say if it's not ground to fine dust don't worry. Brake drums are always something to be careful with. A dust mask would probably be more than enough. I typically spray the old drums and pads with brake cleaner and this will keep the dust from kicking up when I'm doing a brake job.
Not to scare you but Google what they used Asbestos in and you will want to live in a bubble. I don't think the brake liners even compare to what is inside your home and garden. _________________ '53 M38A1 X2
Nic,
53A1 is correct. You have little need to worry about your Jeep. It would take the dust from several hundred asbestos brake shoes to actually physically harm you. A dust mask is appropriate any time you suspect asbestos is present and un-contained in any project you undertake. _________________ Wes K

I concur with Wes. I minored in Geology in college and we had lots of asbestos rock samples around. We were constantly playing with them. Asbestos is a rock so as long as you don't crush it up and aerate it, you don't have much to worry about. That's the whole thing with asbestos exterior siding or pipe insulation. It's only an issue if you break it up or when you remove it, and not much then unless you're working with it constantly.
