On e-bay there is Braden 8000lb Winch for sale that looks very close to the ramsey 50 for our M38's. I've never seen one of these winches and was wondering what it would have originaly been installed on and would it ever been used for military applications on M38 or M38A1?

Thanks
Keith

It's quite a bit heavier and bulkier than the jeep's Ramsey 50.

I am the one who had the Braden winch for sale on E Bay. This winch was mounted on the M38 Jeep when I purchased it. Winch is rated at 8,000 lb
it is 171/4 inches long and 8 inches wide it fits between the grill and bumper with room to spare. I don't know if the Military ever used this winch on the M38. It is still for sale if you are interested. Very Happy

The 8000 Lb rated LU-4 is correct for the M37 and weighs 250 Lbs with cable.

The original Ramsey model 50 M38 winch was rated 3500 Lbs and the later field replacement Ramsey Model 50R's were rated 5000 Lbs. These were considerably lighter by 100 lbs or so than the Braden.

This Braden winch weighs 57 lbs. I call a dealer for this winch and gave him the model number he provided me with info. Winch was mounted on my M 38 Jeep when I bought It.

Yes your empty LU2 weighs 57 Lbs. The weights I posted above are complete with cable, brackets and installed ready to use. The LU2's were originally marked for the 57 to 70 Dodge W100 thru W300 pickups. They can be adapted to the jeep.

They look like this on the W series Dodge trucks:
