Did someone graft a filler neck to this tank or just a poor reproduction?

Looks like a frankentank to me. The fuel pickup is through the bottom of the tank and not the top as in a M38 tank, it doesn't have the rear tie down fitting and the fuel gauge is in the wrong place. The filler neck is the right size for a M38 but the rest of the tank is a CJ!?
