I am installing the rifle rack on my 52' M38. The question I have is does anybody know what the purpose of the v shaped bracket towards the front of the rack? My M1 Garand fits great just was wondering what the purpose was. Thanks

I understand it is for the shorter barrel guns such as the Thompsons.

Thanks for the info! One more question, does the butt of the rifle go underneath the canvas strap at the back or lay in it? To me, it looks as though it would probably lay in it. Thanks.
