I apologize for the fuzzy picture but I think you can see what I've run into with my new Classic Enterprises wheelhouses. These are supposed to be a1 wheelhouses but they are built slightly different then the ones I removed. For one.....the weld-in flange along the upper rear of the wheelhouse is bent up which conflicts with the stiffener on the new end panel. On the old wheelhouse this flange was turned down to be inside the wheelhouse. Secondly....the vertical weld-in flange at the inside rear of the wheelhouse is turned out such that it will end up in the cargo area. On the old wheelhouse this flange was also bent inward to end up inside the wheelhouse area. Lastly....it seems the vertical weld-in at the rear of the wheelhouse got bent in the wrong place as it will not mate up with the end panel at all. I've been trying to get in touch with Classic Enterprises to resolve this issue but as of right now I have been unsuccessful. Has anyone else run into this problem....could it just be I have the wrong model or or year of wheelhouses?

I finally heard from Classic Enterprises......bottom line is.....they don't get enough calls for M38A-1 wheelhouses so all they are tooled up to make are CJ-5 wheelhouses.....and Mr. Knettle is right......what I got are CJ-5 wheelhouses. The fortunate thing is that the wheelhouses are correct in every other aspect except the top and inside rear weld-in tabs......and these can be modified slightly without too much trouble or expense. Its just a good thing I'm not one of those sticklers for detail and doing a factory restoration.....this would have been a deal breaker. So for all you other folks out there who are doing "correct in every way" restorations just be aware......the Classic Enterprise wheelhouses may say they are for the M38A-1.....but in reality they are NOT. As for me and my little project.....a little light weight angle iron and one extra verticle seam and its all good....and a bazillion times better then what I had. _________________ Jim

One might think that a reputable dealer would indicate up-front
that the part in question would require modification for the
particular application. _________________ keep 'em rollin'

All in all.....I can't fault Classic Enterprises too much....they really have been good to work with and their product is excellent. I'm sure if I had asked that specific question Lamont would have answered truthfully....but I didn't. Unfortunately, unlike a lot of y'all, I'm not familiar enough with these older jeeps to know all the subtle differences in the various models....but I'm learning. The one thing that might have helped spark the proper questions would have been if there were a bunch of photos of the actual product taken from various angles and views....maybe then I would have spotted the differences and been prompted to inquire more about the wheelhouse. The product may not be wholly correct for an M38A-1....but I bet its the best darn wheelhouse you'll find anywhere for a CJ-5. _________________ Jim
