I am putting my leaf springs back together, but some of the bolts are no up to par. Is the bolt that goes through the center of the leaf springs and the bolts, 6 per spring, that go through the c-shaped brackets a special kind of steel?

I don't think that the bolts that hold the leaf spring brackets are anything special.

I would recomend grade 5 or 8 though, just to be sure you don't have a problem.

I hope that helps! Smile

If you have a commercial spring rebuilding shop near you they'll have all you need. The center long threaded bolt is a wee bit special since it is used to draw the leafs tightly together.

Thanks Wes. I don't have a spring shop near by, but I will make sure the center bolt is adequate.

You may find them under suspension and driveline shops. If not just call a local heavy truck repair shop and ask where they send their spring work.
