Yep, a radio jeep. Maybe a one of a kind? But I would bet not. There is a rectifier in the grill area. Looks like the standard radio seen in other USMC jeeps of the time and a very useful modification.

Also a bright red ID plaque across the bottom grill area. When you find bolt holes in a row across the grill on your USMC M38A1 there is a good chance this is what was fastened there and not a backyard modification. They are made of painted wood and rot away over the years.
