i was using a cj5 seat, but with my new ( used tub) i don't want to have to drill new holes and rather use the old ones that are in great shape. I'm guessing the cj3a has the same driver seat. if a 2a seat works also then I'm alright with that too, I'm using a cj3a gas tank if that matters. Thanks!

This will help:

http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5747&highlight=drivers+seat

Note that the CJ3A driver's seat is significantly lower than the M38 (due to the M38's taller gas tank. The steering column is mounted higher up in the M38 too. The CJ2A seat is different again, due to the wheelhouse size difference between the CJ2A & CJ3A......

oh wow thanks, so "... Neither the 2A or 3A seat right front leg will work in the M38. The M38 can be made to work in the CJ3A but not in the CJ2A." hold true. so i will need to buy a m38 driver seat to avoid drilling new holes

You see original take-off M38 seats on Ebay occasionally. Also, Army Jeep Parts are advertising NOS ones for sale (no doubt other vendors will have them too):

http://www.armyjeepparts.com/

Not as cheap as reproduction seats, but the repro ones do vary in price (and quality Shocked ). You may find that it's worth paying a bit extra for NOS, avoiding the annoyance of having to modify poor quality replacement parts to get them to fit. Been there, done that, got the "sucker" tattoo. Mad

The frame and rear pan. The seat pan is separate. John at Midwest Military has very good quality repro ones:

Quarter of the way down the page on the right........

Impossible for me to tell from that photo. Could be CJ3A. Or it could be a CJ2A one modified to fit the CJ3A (note the tubes at the front look like they've been cut & re-welded). Correction. The front seat pan supports on the CJ2A were tubular, so this is probably a Bubba'd CJ3A seat. Check this page:

http://www.cj3a.info/cj3a/cj2acj3a.html

I don't think it's an M38 one, though. This is the M38 seat (courtesy of Wes):

Note the differences in the front tubes. Also no cut-out in the rear support bar.

Having said that, if you're confident that you could modify this seat to fit the M38, $25 is a very good price. Might be an idea to ask the seller if he knows what jeep it came out of.

Btw, it's not an MB/GPW seat......
