Figure 31 on page 123 of TM 9-8012 shows two studs in the engine block aft of the distributor and just below the cylinder head deck. I have not been abale to find any reference for these studs, which also appear on my M38 engine. What are they for?

I have those also. On my WW2 Jeep, they do hold the coil. I discovered when my coil failed out on the highway, that those little buggers go all the way into the water jacket. The nuts were stuck on the threads, so out they came along with 200 degree antifreeze. That required what is refered to as " a religious experience " Laughing John
